Gratefulness Amplifies Creativity

We’re ambitious. We strive. We grow. We achieve. We do. We hustle. We push forward. We fail. We learn. We don’t give up. We build. We create. We innovate.

There is goodness in all of these things. No doubt. This is the path of progress.

We live in a culture with far, far too much emphasis on doing, and on celebrating once the task is done, with a limited definition of who has power. There is a great deal of fear, and cynicism going around that most of us will never have “enough”. In this culture, it’s easy to dismiss any source of positivity and beauty as a form of Pollyannism, yet there’s plenty of evidence that recognizing our simple blessings greatly increases our well-being, and actually INCREASES our ability to create and innovate. Thus, when we are grateful, we will have more to be grateful for.

So I share this video as a way to remind each of us to not lose perspective on the moments comprised in the work, as in each moment. It is a TEDxSF talk by the award-winning cinematographer Louie Schwartzberg. When we can appreciate the how in the work, in the moments themselves, we will appreciate even more the outcomes and results.

  1. lovely video & post. Such a simple thing, to remain humble and closer to self. Yet we forget small things of life and chase bigger things. I particularly liked this though “simple blessings greatly increases our well-being, and actually INCREASES our ability to create and innovate”. thanks for reminding.
